Your adventure begins in the morning from the local area, as we embark on a scenic coastal route towards Abbotsbury. Upon arrival at The Swannery Coach Park around 10:30, situated conveniently opposite the main entrance, you'll have the opportunity to witness the captivating feeding time at 12:00 noon. We recommend spending around 2 hours with the majestic swans and another 2 hours exploring the enchanting gardens, though the choice is entirely yours. The journey between the swans and the gardens initially involves a pleasant 3/4 mile walk, so comfortable footwear is essential for the day's activities. At the main entrance, you'll find a shop and a cozy coffee shop to further enhance your experience. Our departure from the Coach Park is scheduled for approximately 15:00, concluding a day filled with nature's wonders and tranquility.

Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset is unique

This is the only place in the world where you are able to walk through the heart of a colony of nesting Mute Swans, spread over a site of some 25 acres. A visit to the Swannery is considered one of the best things to do in Dorset.

The Swannery was established by Benedictine Monks who built a monastery at Abbotsbury during the 1040s. The monks farmed the swans to produce food for their lavish Dorset banquets. St Peter’s monastery was destroyed in 1539, during the dissolution. Some of the ruins are still visible around St Nicolas’ Church in the village. Since that time, the Swannery has been under the stewardship of the Ilchester Estates.
