Buckler’s Hard is an historic 18th-century shipbuilding village on the Beaulieu River in the New Forest, where visitors can explore the original Georgian street, the fascinating maritime museum, St Mary’s Chapel with its smugglers’ cellar, and a recreated shipwright’s workshop, all set in beautiful riverside surroundings. A highlight of the visit is the scenic boat trip along the sheltered Beaulieu River, offering relaxing views and commentary on the area’s rich naval history.

During your visit you can eat & drink at The Captain’s Table – casual café/tea house serving breakfast, light lunches, sandwiches, hot drinks and ice cream (open daily from around 10 am) or The Master Builder's House Hotel – riverside hotel with a restaurant where you can enjoy a fuller meal with lovely views and a more substantial menu

Picnics are welcome at Buckler’s Hard. Bring a blanket and find a grassy spot or grab one of the picnic benches with views of the Beaulieu River.

Accessibility

Buckler’s Hard offers level access to parts of the museum, café and facilities, with disabled parking and an accessible toilet available, but some historic areas have gravel paths, slopes and narrow doorways which may be challenging for wheelchair users. The river cruise can accommodate many visitors with mobility needs, though a few steps are required to board.

On the banks of the Beaulieu River, in the heart of the New Forest, you will find the peaceful haven of Buckler's Hard which remains untouched by the passage of time. Once a thriving shipbuilding village where ships for Nelson's fleet at Trafalgar were built, now Buckler's Hard is a tranquil haven, perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of modern life. Amble down the high street to watch the boats sailing by on the Beaulieu River or, if you're feeling more energetic, follow the scenic 2 mile footpath between Buckler’s Hard and Beaulieu.
