View Dates & Book

A visit to Greenwich offers a wealth of memorable sights that are completely free to enjoy. Begin with a gentle stroll through Greenwich Park, where a walk up to the Royal Observatory Hill rewards you with sweeping views across London’s skyline. Just outside the paid area you can also stand on a Prime Meridian marker—an unexpected treat for many visitors. From here, wander down to the riverside and explore the grand courtyards of the Old Royal Naval College, designed by the renowned Christopher Wren. Its elegant domes, long colonnades, and waterfront views make it perfect for striking photographs. Continue through the landscaped grounds of the Queen's House, admired for its graceful classical lines and peaceful setting.

Down by the waterfront, the iconic Cutty Sark proudly sits in its dry dock, offering wonderful views and a lively atmosphere filled with street performers and visitors. A short walk away, Greenwich Market invites you to browse its colourful mix of craft stalls, antiques, and world-food vendors—ideal for a relaxed break. Continue along the Thames riverside path, passing historic pubs and hidden alleys while enjoying superb views of Canary Wharf across the water. For something a little different, step into the Victorian Greenwich Foot Tunnel and walk beneath the Thames to emerge on the Isle of Dogs. Finish your visit with a stop at the O2, where the surrounding peninsula walkway offers river views, sculptures, and glimpses of the cable cars overhead—another often-missed highlight that’s free to explore.

Accessibility

The Greenwich area is largely accessible, with flat, spacious routes around the Old Royal Naval College, Queen’s House, Cutty Sark plaza and the Thames riverside walk. Greenwich Market and the O2 offer level access, though the market can be busy. The main challenge is the steep hill in Greenwich Park, but the lower parkland and surrounding paths remain easy to navigate, and lifts provide access to the Greenwich Foot Tunnel when in service

Greenwich boasts a rich history that spans centuries, making it one of London’s most iconic historic districts. Originally a royal manor, it became home to the magnificent Palace of Placentia, where monarchs like Henry VIII and Elizabeth I were born. The town later rose to global prominence as a centre of navigation and astronomy, with the establishment of the Royal Observatory in 1675, setting the Prime Meridian and standardizing Greenwich Mean Time. Today, Greenwich preserves its maritime and royal heritage through its museums, historic streets, and riverside landmarks, offering visitors a journey through England’s fascinating past.
