RHS Garden Rosemoor, located in the picturesque Torridge Valley in North Devon, has a rich history that began long before it became an official Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) garden. Originally a private estate, Rosemoor was transformed into a garden by Lady Anne Berry in the 1950s. Inspired by her visits to renowned gardens worldwide, she began developing Rosemoors landscape with a diverse selection of plants suited to the English climate, especially focusing on roses, which later inspired the gardens name. Lady Anne nurtured the land with a passion for botany and horticulture, eventually creating a beautiful 8-acre garden that became well-known in the gardening community.
In 1988, Lady Anne generously gifted Rosemoor to the RHS, enabling the society to further develop the garden into the 65-acre horticultural masterpiece it is today. The RHS expanded and added various themed gardens, including the iconic Rose Gardens, Mediterranean Garden, and Cottage Garden, each highlighting different styles, plant species, and gardening techniques. Rosemoor now serves as a hub for gardening education and inspiration, with the RHS hosting workshops, exhibitions, and seasonal events throughout the year. The gardens evolution from a private passion project into a renowned public garden reflects both its founder's vision and the RHS's commitment to promoting gardening excellence and conservation.
