We begin our visit with a guided tour of the magnificent Winchester Cathedral, which has been a living place of worship & welcome for over 900 years. It is one of the finest medieval cathedrals in Europe, with fascinating history, stunning architecture, and famous connections including Jane Austen. After the tour, there’s free time to explore Winchester at your leisure — browse the lovely independent shops, enjoy a bite to eat, or simply soak up the charm of this historic city.

Accessibility

Please note that Winchester Cathedral is wheelchair accessible, with level access to most areas and accessible toilet facilities available. There is a stairlift which can be operated by staff to access the raised level of the Quire. Some uneven surfaces and gentle slopes are found within the cathedral and city centre. The city itself has some cobbled and hilly areas, so comfortable footwear is recommended.

A visit to Winchester Cathedral offers an unforgettable journey through over 900 years of history, stunning Gothic architecture, and fascinating stories. Inside, you can admire the magnificent vaulted ceilings, intricate medieval carvings, and the resting place of author Jane Austen. Guided tours reveal hidden treasures such as the crypt, ancient manuscripts, and the famous Winchester Bible. Beyond the Cathedral, the historic city of Winchester is filled with charm — from its picturesque High Street lined with independent shops to landmarks like the Great Hall and Winchester College. After exploring, visitors can relax in one of the city’s welcoming cafés and restaurants, such as the Cathedral Refectory for homemade cakes and local produce, or enjoy fine dining at The Chesil Rectory, set in a beautiful 600-year-old building. Winchester perfectly blends culture, cuisine, and centuries of English heritage, making it a must-visit destination.
